The Faculty Of health sciences presents two new majors

The faculty of health science at the main Campus of the University of Balamand in koura is now offering two majors which are BS in nursing and nutritional sciences. The nursing program will help prepare BS nurses to excel in their career. The program will be offered is French and English. As for the nutrition sciences program, it offers a variety of major options: nutrition and dietetics, dietetics with premedical option, community nutrition and “food science and quality assurance”. The programs are expected to start this spring semester.

Balamand announces its “CONNECT” of 2011

U.O.B announced its annual CONNECT program for the year 2011. It’s a cultural-academic program helping the youth with Lebanese origins to visit Lebanon and develop a true understanding of the cultural and social dynamics of the country. “ CONNECT 2011 will be taking place from the 1st to the 28th of July, 2011”, said Denise Assaf, CONNECT Program Coordinator in Balamand For more information,.
Denise added:  “ This is not our first experience, the program was established in 2001 and is still going on for this year. Our mission is to connect Lebanese and other Arab immigrants with their homeland and to introduce them to their cultural heritage. A semester break in Arez for all U.O.B. Students

Al-Fun Club Is arranging for its annual snow camp trip which is going to take place on the 9th-10th of February 2011 at the “Hotel Mon Refuge” in Arez. Dinner and party will be served on the first night after the arrival and for the next day breakfast and other snow programs like skiing will be served. This event is presented by the Faculty of Health & sciences in Beirut but the invitation is open to all U.O.B. students

U.O.B. Clubs discusses campus life in Ehden

The University Of Balamand is arranging a 2 days trip for all club leaders and faculty advisors involved with clubs to Ehden Country Club for the purpose of Enriching Campus Life. It will take place in Ehden, on the 5th-6th of march 2011. Number of people expected to attend could reach 110 persons. The trip is proposed for club administrators only and not for all members or students. The following topics will be discussed: campus life, motivation, positive thinking, interpersonal communication, balancing career life at university, ethics, change your attitude, get involved and many others”, said Maya from the Office of Student Affairs. (OSA). Maya added: “We are also planning on hosting some potential speakers like some OSA moderators, such as, Hammoud Syoufi from the Education Management in FHS. Maxim Shaya who’s the first Lebanese to climb Mount Everest as a motivational speaker, May Al-Khalil President of Beirut Marathon Association, Zeina Dakash a Lebanese actress and standup comedian who is also going to carry out a live standup comedy performance and last but not least some doctors and professors from U.O.B. for interventions.”

Arab League Ambassador to France discusses “ Union For The Mediterranean”

The faculty of Arts and Social Sciences hosted a lecture for Dr. Nassif Hitti, entitled “ Union For The Mediterranean”.  Lecture  took place on Thursday the 27th of January 2011 at 12:30 pm.  Dr. Hitti, who’s an Arab league ambassador to France and permanent observer to UNESCO discussed the Middle East’s political issues and status.  “ We are not moving forward, we are only pulling ourselves backward instead”, he said. The discussion and lecture included historical, current and future events that might go on.

The Lebanese Red Cross department is collecting donations

The Lebanese Red Cross department is currently collecting donations for those in need. The donations will be distributed to people and mainly to children in several deprived areas in Lebanon. Red Cross Boxes will be available at Khoury Hall, Fares Hall, OSA, Female and male dorms and at the library here at Balamand University starting today. Donators can donate things like second-hand clothes, canned food, packaged food, match sticks and tissue boxes. The Red Cross will continue collecting donations until the end of spring semester this year and there is a possibility of extending more time to collect donations.

"City of Mirrors" on the stage on Zakhem Auditorium January 22nd

The theater club will be presenting a play entitled "City of Mirrors" on Saturday, 22nd of Januray, 2010, which is directed by Roger Assaf.  The play will be held in Zakhem auditorium at 7pm. "City of Mirror" is a theatre poem created of words, pictures, and music connected for the Armenian-Palestinian-Lebanese artist, Paul Geragosian, where he concentrated on his pictures on the human body that doesn’t have any genes or characteristics.  Also, Geragosian's music has a union human spirits, where many religions, cultures, and societies.  In addition, his paintings and pictures were all about a story of a family who had struggled through the war.

Internet awareness workshop in Jacobo Auditorium.

The faculty of Science arranges a scientific workshop entitled, "Workshop Improving the Qualifications of the Student's Security Through the Internet." The workshop will take place on Thursday, January, 25th, 2010 at 2pm in the Jacobo auditorium in the Tourism and Hotel Management Institute.

The workshop aims to draw attention to the unwise use of the internet, discussing the role of the schools to aware its students about the danger of the internet, and the contribution of the university in the awareness. The workshop includes a presentation about the danger of the internet, the existing initiative and laws, security techniques at home, schools, and the major school experiences. At the end of the seminar, a discussion board will be held to discuss the important facts of the event. The participants in this workshop are the school's principals, the elementary teaching in the North.

Started yesterday, Red Cross donation campaign for the needy.

The Red Cross Youth in Balamand is organizing a fundraising campaign , wherein all the students are encouraged to donate clothes and food cans.  These donations will go for families that need financial help. The campaign started yesterday, Monday, January, 17th, 2011 and will continue for the whole Spring semester.  Empty boxes with the Red Cross logo will be at Beit Al Talibat residency, the Freij residency, Khoury, and Fares buildings to put the things that all students and staff want to donate.

"Le Trio" played in Hariri Auditorium

The German Lebanese Association presented a musical concert for the group called "Le Trio" on January 15th,2011,.  This concert was held Hariri Auditorium at 7pm.  The aim of the musical concert is to promote both the Lebanese and German culture, and to show the harmony between them.  Michael Dickiir, Monica Waisman, and Florian Dextor, will be playing on the Larb and the violin.  There are 9 pieces of music to be played by them.

Starting Jan 11, Fiesta exhibits for disabled children

"Fiesta" for Human Rights has presented an exhibition for the disabled children, going on for three days starting January 11th. Held in the Zakhem, the exhibition includes drawings and writing done by the children. The aim of the exhibition is to promote awareness, and focus on children with special needs.  The targeted groups are private schools educators and the NGOs.  Schools are invited to join the exhibition. 

"Fiesta" is a non profitable NGO that works on providing the need for the disabled or needed one.

Starting February, 8th, exhibition for "Painting with troubled waters"

The Public Relation department in cooperation with the Academie Libanais des Beaux Arts (ALBA)department (main campus), is planning an exhibition for the artist Anny Gorjayan, entitled, "Peinture en Eaux Troubles." Which means, "Painting with troubled waters" The exhibition will go through February 8th till February the 18th from 10am till 5pm at the Zakhem Building. 

Gorjayan has achieved her Masters in Business Administration at the Saint Joseph university in 1994, also, in 2001 she has graduated from the Lebanese University holding a Diploma in Visual Arts. Since then, she has been arranging exhibitions on her own or with cooperation with other artists in Beirut and other countries in the world, such as Paris, and Leon. 

The Last Scene, play about Gaza on January 13th

The Cultural Club and the Interactive Club will be presenting a play entitled as "The Last Scene," which will be held Thursday, January 13th 2010 at 12:30 in the Hariri Auditorium.  The play is about the "Brotherhood" ship which has aimed to break the Gaza siege.  The play will be acting the story of the boat that went to Gaza and face the Israeli Soldiers. The actors in the play are the brothers named, Mohammed Tabara, Ramy Malat, and Mohammed Hekm. 

Ogareet Dandash sharing her experience in the Hariri Auditorium

The Interactive Club invited Ms. Ogareet Dandash, a reporter of the New Television, on Tuesday, January 11th at 5pm at the Hariri Auditorium to share her experience which happened during summer 2010, which was to go to Gaza, Palestine, on the "freedom" fleet to cover the incidence that took place through the journey of the "brotherhood ship."

  Dandash stated that they were six people on the boat that left from Tripoli, when they have reached Larnika, the Israeli soldiers started threatening them without attacking them to leave, but they continued. However, when they were close to Gaza, the Israeli soldiers came and took each one of them and put them in a separate room for investigation, Dandash added.  After almost three soldiers investigating at different times, Dandash was taken out of the boat to a car on the land, where in this case she saw Gaza and smelled its air.  Dandash mentioned that she can never forget this experience her life as it was the best and she wishes to return to Palestine again.  "Gaza doesn’t need money, clothes, or food, but it only needs to know that there are still people suppoting its case." Dandash quoted.

Cinema Club features ‘One flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest’ on Dec 18

The Balamand Cine Club will be showing a movie called ‘One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest” on Tuesday, January 18th at 5 pm, in Fares 119. The movie is adapted from the novel of the same name. It represents Jack Nicholson as a criminal who has been transferred to a mental institution. As he arrives, he quickly gains the trust of the other patients, and soon becomes their leader from within. The movie will be followed by commentary from Cine club advisor Dr. Charles Dick. 

Castel Company introduces wine making

Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management hosted the representatives of Castel Company for wine John Luke Dismarist and Sherly Shukair on Tuesday 11th of January 2011 in Jacobo Auditorium. The representatives of this company presented a demonstration of how wine is made. Wine tasting was part of this demonstration. Castel Company was first started in Bordeaux, France in 1949 by a French family. It is one of the top companies in producing wine worldwide. Castel company distributes more than 450 million wine bottles every year.

18 NGO's participating in the 3rd opportunity day

The career services department presented its 3rd opportunity on Monday, January 10th, 2011 in the Exhibition Hall at the Zakehm Building.  The day that remained from 10 am to 2pm included 18 NGOs that students can apply for either as a volunteer or training, such as, "Catharsis," "The SEED Program, "Loyac," "KOUDOURAT," and many more.  Ms. Martine Andraous, Miss Lebanon 2009, was invited to promote the NGO's.

The Culture Club provokes Self Motivation Skills in Zakhem

The Cultural Club hosted Dr. El Bahy Gad, an international trainer, to address students about self motivation skills. The speech of Dr. El Bahy Gad was held on Tuesday, January 4th, 2011 in the Zakhem auditorium.   "The first step to change the world is to change you first" , said Dr. Dr. Gad. In his lecture, Dr. Gad spoke about the most two important factors in life, which are communication and critical thinking.  Moreover, he discussed the seven vital actions for self motivators and explained each one of them in details.  During his explanation for the seven vital actions for self motivators, he got questions for the audience to answer them. At the end of his lecture he said:, "understand yourself, treat yourself, understand others, and treat others."
